Normalize Breastfeeding - Put a Blanket Over YOUR Head!
Posted on 31 December 2015
I live in a very progressive city in which you are far more likely to get harassed for bottle feeding than breastfeeding your baby. I hear of other people being harassed or shamed while breastfeeding and I'm always ready for the day it happens to me. I plan to frantically and apologetically look into my bag, grab a blanket or a coat or something, and act like I am going to cover up. Then, I'm going to hand it to the person bothering me and say, "If you can't look away, why don't YOU put this over YOUR head." I am currently breastfeeding my third child, and have been breastfeeding for over 5 years. The only comment I have ever received while feeding my babies or toddlers was from an old man who put his hand on my shoulder and quietly said, "Good for you. Keep it up." Until every breastfeeding mother can say the same of their breastfeeding experience, I will work to normalize breastfeeding.
